How to Prepare your Skin and Maintain your Spray Tan

The perfect tan consists of world class solution, a crafty technician and a well prepared client

1

The Week Before your Appointment

Hair removal

It is vital that any waxing, shaving or electrolysis is done at least 24hrs (48hrs for waxing) prior to your tan.

Exfoliate

For a perfect spray tan you need a smooth even base. You can achieve this by thoroughly exfoliating then moisturising in the days leading up to your appointment.

Your last exfoliation should be 24 hours before your tanning session. Pay particular attention to rougher areas including knees, elbows, feet & heels.

Moisturising

For your tan to be even and long lasting moisturising is essential but not on the day of your tan! Dry, flaky or sunburnt skin will result in a patchy tan. Again focus on rougher areas of skin.

Suggest: Bondi Sands Body Moisturiser with Vitamin E & Jojoba (Chemist Warehouse or Coles)

The Day of your Appointment

Shower (Do not wash hair)

Use body wash without moisturising agents. Stay away from creamy body wash and soap bars.

Look for ph balanced, soap-free wash or "normal" clear body wash. Failing to do so can turn your tan orange.

Suggest: Bondi Sands PH Balanced Body Wash (Chemist Warehouse or Coles)

Don’t apply

Deodorant, Moisturiser, Make-up, Perfume or Sunscreen

Remember that long-lasting deodorants will likely remain on the skin from days earlier so try to avoid

After your Appointment

Developing times

You will be advised on how long you need to wait before you have your first rinse 2,4 or 6 hrs.

Don’t get wet until rinse time

This includes sweating. Any moisture will result in white patches so be careful, no washing up or working out!

Also don’t touch your tanned skin until wash off time, it can result in marks and worse, tanned palms! If you are sleeping in your tan it is recommended to wear light, loose cotton socks over your hands to prevent this.

Rinse

In the shower, under lukewarm water rinse off for 30 seconds, that’s it! No soap, hair washing or anything else until the next day. You will notice the water is brown! Don’t worry this is just the initial bronzer, your colour will develop over the next 24-48hrs. Pat dry with a towel no rubbing!

The next day you can have a shower as normal with soap free wash and pat dry.

For the Next 10-14 days

Shower

Have short, lukewarm showers and use a soap-free body wash with moisturising agents, no parabens, and no sulfates.

Suggest: Bondi Sands PH Balanced Body Wash

Moisturise!

Start after 24-48hrs and continue for the life of your tan

Proper hydration is everything but an oil-rich formula can actually make it come off faster. Use a very basic lotion that isn’t oil-based and moisturise right after your shower.

Fragrance and alcohol-free is best.

Suggest: Bondi Sands Body Moisturiser with Vitamin E & Jojoba

Avoid swimming

Spas, baths, saunas, and chlorine will drastically reduce the life of your tan

Gently exfoliate from 4 days onwards

Never spray perfume directly onto the skin as it will cause patches
